National Awards

As I sit here pretending to work, a news item flits by. Some people are being awarded Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan awards. Among them, Tendlya, who looks rather smart. And for some mysterious reason, Pranab Mukherjee. What the F has he done? Apart from screwing up foreign policy all over the place?

Anyway, the thing that prompted me to write this post - my contribution to post-erity - is that one of the awardees for Padma Bhushan is Chandrashekhar Dasgupta, a former Ambassador. I was just thinking how nice it would be if they had awarded one to Dara Singh for being a former Maruti.

Unfortunately by awarding it to goofs like Pranab, the significance is lost...

Why did Pranab get it? For his dog like loyalty to Madam and family

Hey thanks :) for commenting. You are the first person who does not know me and has commented. Yaay!

LOL, I read blogs like I drink water, and find your comments on most blogs I read :P And I read yours regularly too. Just do not comment :) Mebbe I should do that too eh?

I talk too much. Very visible aah?

Good PJ as PJs go.
Obvious reason for Pranab getting this is, well, as put forth by Vijay here, obvious.
Pranab-da has something else of great value. For any actor or stand-up comedian trying to practice speaking the exact Bonglish, his diction is the ultimate reference point. Dare I say, he's the greatest living Bonglish speaker? See here
Does anybody remember Pranab-da reading out a condolence statement for Benazir on National TV? Which began with his annoyance at jostling media men and went on to his reading out the punctuation marks and paragraph breaks? The man can be a great source of amusement too.
Wish I could find that hilarious video.

v- Thanks. Not many people laugh at my pjs. I love you brother.

raji - Et tu? My faith in humanity is restored. Thanks!

adi - That's it! I am officially declaring myself human, regardless of what my friends and relatives say. Thank you, Thank you.

nandini - I think you are a very nice person. Thanks for the kind words.

partho - Soul brother, for me Pronob-da is the ultimate stand-up comedian. I remember the condolence statement for Benazir. I loved it! And hunted in vain I have, for that video on youtube. How marvelous to find, in this wicked world, a kindred soul! Were you lost in a mela? Not that I was, but you never know.

Haha, how about a Bharat Ratna to Deve Gowda for being a former Premier. Another one to Sonia for being a former Contessa. And oh, why not, a posthumous one to Sanjay & Indira for ruling by Fiat.

:) That was a good PJ. Can I borrow it?

-Ok

OK - Sure! Thanks, bro.

As for the whole awards, I have lost my faith in humanity. I mean, Pranab Mukherjee of all people?! Whatever happened to the deserving Indians?

there is something that takes some people somewhere - its complex to understand, he accomplished his best in millions - what so ever.

You are making a mistake here. These are notional, not national, awards.
Pranabda is, note, a notable if not notional, national neta.
