Dear Mumbai Police and NSG

I know you guys are busy right now with the terrorists but I HAVE to draw this to your attention. I have just been watching a program on the Times Now channel where four people namely Alyque Padamsee, Farooq Sheikh, Shefali Shah and one guy named Sohail, I think were discussing the situation with the anchor, a bespectacled gawd-help-us whose name I could not catch.

These four people are ANGRY. Not with the terrorists, who they feel are only misguided souls doing what they've been told, and doing it rather well, thank you very much, but with YOU.

Yes, they feel that you don't know what you are doing.

How can you take SO MUCH TIME? snarls Shefali.

What EXACTLY have you been upto during the last 20 hours? snarls Sohail, who also wants to know why the Mumbai Police had to wait 8 hours before deciding to call for Army assistance. He feels, and who is to fault his crystal clear logic, that the Army should be called for any situation including a bad traffic day.

Farooq Shaikh wishes you people were atleast half as well prepared as the terrorists, calling your performance amateurish.

And Alyque Padamsee just ranted something in an impeccable accent. Probably doesn't like the way you people dress.

All four also blamed you for allowing this kind of thing to happen. Don't you people KNOW, they ask, that you are not supposed to let terrorists fire at people?

Shefali also expressed disgust at the cursory way her car is checked when she frequently goes to five star hotels. Just a mirror under the car and open the boot. What if she's carrying AK47's on the back seat? It's YOUR fault, she insinuates. You don't teach the five star hotel security ANYTHING!

So people, brave and fearless though you might be, and though all of you have fearlessly jumped into battle with opponents you know next to nothing about, other than that they are armed to the teeth with high explosives, we feel you need some expert coaching.

Why don't you take these four wonderful people and shove them into the corridor in the Taj or the Oberoi? I'm sure you would learn a lot!

I'm all for the NSG and the Mumbai Police who are clearly performing beyond their capacity but I'd like to take the entire government (opposition included) and arrange a playdate with the terrorists.

I'm so glad you and your family are fine. I hope this thing ends soon.

Saw that program too and I don't think they were blaming the NSG and police so much.

Anirban Bose (the bespeckled guy) and Sohail Seth were very vocal in their regard and respect for the army, the NSG, police and the fire fighters. Infact they were talking about how Amar Singh and NHRC got after them post the Batla House issue. To quote Sohail Seth - "We are country that does not respect valor"

I am all praise for Anirban Bose for he was confronting the issues head on. They discussed Pakistan, they discussed the ineptitude of the politicos and there was talk about starting a movement. Good journalism.

Shefali Chayya, Farooq Sheikh and Alyque Padamsee were cutting a sorry figure. They can be discounted.

I couldn't have put it better. The chatter becomes intolerable.

Only party that could make the situation worse than it already is. Indian media. I bow to them.

I saw the programme too and I don't think Sohail and Arunabh were talking abt the NSG / Mumbai Police at all...The debate was about politicizing the whole issue and how Shivraj Patil and Advani were just gobbing away at press conferences like completely incapable cowards. The emphasis was on the fact that even after so many terror attacks on Mumbai, why the government was so unprepared, why the commandos were not given sufficiently protective attire. It is a sad state of affairs. Completely misleading post...but I know you are entitled to voice yourself, like I just did now :)

Hey, what they said rightly was the way situation is being dealt.. Our cops being paid peanuts perform acts of valor and are totally forgotten two months later.. How will it help in inspiring other cops?? Plus just look at the resources they have.. terrorists are better equipped than them!!

Plus, the way Mr. PM had addressed the nation was really pathetic.. Are these the leaders on whom the country rests??

perfect!

without standing in the line of fire , the media has been 'interpreting' many things...
yes, the intelligence failure may have happened, but the important thing is this, it 'MAY' have..or may not have...

all respectable channels crapped a whole lot of analysis in their own little reality shows...

poori tarah se mauke ka faayda uthaya!!

not at all 'responsible' journalism, i say

well forgive them ..they r the real discombobulated ppl.And me?well my parents just happened to name me that. After hearing them i feel so much saner.and wondering how the entire petty bourgeoise of india was watching the same show?fails logic....like evrythg else happening around us

NDTV's coverage seemed quite good.. Although the blokes on CNN (in the US) were of the opinion that they knew WAY more than the Indian security forces - EVERY sentence the anchor uttered had some 'advice' for the Indian security personnel, like they were little kids.

padamsee was on IBN as well. With teh page 3 not being able to goto their parties in the big hotels they decided to swoon over the news studios instead!

Dear brave men/ladies,
Let me say first of all, I am proud of you. You are doing a great job.I am also relieved that no stupid politians are seen anywhere near. They should not be there. Our prayers are with you and the innocent hostages.

I am proud of the unity shown by Indians at the time of this grave crisis. We showed that we cannot be overpowered by this sort of devilish acts. Just one thing, please keep the politicians as away as possible.

Trust me..Shoba De was annoyin...the only thing that stopped me from gettin outta my house, taking a flight to mumbai, yanking her ugle hair and slapping her tight across her (nasty) face was the chennai rains!

And then there was mahesh bhatt and javed jaffrey...who next? Johnny lever??

@reluctant warrior, wandering mystique - My apologies! One hears what one wants to hear, I suppose, and I was really hearing only a lot of snarling. I couldn't figure out WHY everyone was snarling when a death game was being played. Imagine yourself as an NSG commando. Your colonel has ordered you to storm the corridor on the 4th floor. You don't know who's there, what he's going to throw at you, whether you will ever see your little kid again..... All this is happening on TV and here are 4 ivory tower intellectuals snarling away. OK, some of them also snarled at politicians, but you can't blame the political situation for anything. This is a democracy, WE voted for these guys.

Instead of snarling, I would have thought that people with such sterling intellect would have come up with something practical, like distancing the security forces from operational control of politicians. Making the police force truly independent, and yet answerable to the people via select committee of parliament or something.

No, the message I got was Hey, I'm on TV, and I have to look good and sound great. THAT is why I was pissed.

I personally have a bone to pick with
a) barkha dutt - she shoves a mike under the nose of a firangi who has just been resuced and asks " were you scared?". Oh no, he was not scared, he was eating popcorn watching the terrorists gun down people and clapping.
b) alyque WTF cant they stop getting him on to every single show in the universe? he is a has been ad guru - has been fifty years ago. no on in advertising listens to him anymore. and you get him as an opinion maker on terrorism? come on.

c) the entire bloody blind media which is giving a blow by blow account of the ops so that the terrorists are completely prepared and know exactly how many NSG guys are going to come in and from where.

d) the (#*@#( politicians gobbling away acting holier than thou

e) raj thackeray - WHERE THE F*** is he hiding now? under the bed?

i agree about the anchor... arnab.. but if you actually heard what they have said you will see.. sohail espcially was making sense... bombay has come under so many attacks.. and while you can't prevent terrorism because that is the whole nature of its insidiousness.. we need to be better prepared... we are always just getting up.. with a hey look at us we're troopers! we can pick up the pieces and move on.. maybe this time we need to mourn.. need to learn..where were the coast guard? someone actually stopped the terrorists as they came off their boat.. and they got off with a little dada-giri and saying they were students?.. did you see the protective gear that karkare was wearing? i have seen better in a paintball session!... our armed forces are HEROES!.. to go in into a situation of so much confusion.. without the equipment.. they really are making the best of a terrible situation and i truely turely have so much respect for them.. but they if anyone should DEMAND better... they are risking their lives.. they need our support.. they NEED us to get angry.. to demand better infrastructure.. they need us to spade call.. we can not just be sitting ducks like this... there are HUGE errors of judgemnet.. it will be mockery to salute kampte and karkare and salaskar and not learn from all this.. because they will have died in vain.. the nsg and the army and navy are doing such a good job... but they need better support.. from our government.. they need training in this.. and since we are on friendly terms with israel and russia (both countries with a history in dealing with situations like this) i think we should ask for help..

Anonymous said...

also... there should be directives laid out to media in situations like this.. the people need to know yes.. but so much? and even if it may help the terrorists??...the anchor rahul on times now..infact kept telling his reps on field when they shouldn't be giving out information.. which was very commendable and at least someone was thinking..

and directives need to be laid out to the common man.. this is a serious situation.. and everyone should come together and behave responsibly.. there are gawkers.. if you have no business there get out.. dont add to the confusion

Thank you for this post. I've been hopping mad at the criticism the ingrates are hurling at these guys.

Wondering how Rakhi Sawant has been left out of the discussions in the news rooms.

Isn't she considered "expert" enough?

I think Suhel Seth has a stake in that News Channel. Now wonder his opinion is sought one every damn thing!

And nothing can explain his hair, it looked like the love child between donald trump's hair and a bird's nest.

Yeah... Where the "Beep" is Raj Thaakaray? Our politicians are cowards. I'm not blaming the politicians for everything. but the way things are going about, i'd say, its just a cumilative effect of what the politicians did. Ignore things and just swindle.

Rakhi Sawant was on. Along with Javed Akhtar! Didn't you see? Supposedly she was going to be celebrating her birthday in the same waters aboard a 'sheep'! That woman, and missing an opportunity such as this, for publicity? Impossible!

Also, yes, the the times now anchor is a pain in the backside!

That wuss Raj Thakeray will be talked about for maximum 2 days, and then all will be forgotten and he will be up and talking again!

I was disappointed even with the interview with Vilas Rao Deshmukh. He firstly took more than 15 odd hours to get there, and his csual wayof speaking about the people who had died really pissed me off!

The PM.. Lets not even go there!

The great work done by NSG taj is free now.

BUT this is most irresponsible response by any media in world. really the role of media is like they are informers of these terrorist, as soon as commando enter on top of Nariman house media started showing it live,in condition when we all know that terrorist had Satellite phone n they were continues in touch with their akas.
So some SHAHIS may belong to media also.N n they are IBN7 saying that great work done by Rakesh Trivedi when he enters in taj without informing NSG during Encounter.
SO media must have to Responsible i Must say Government must take action against this type of act n future.

Nandini Vishwanath said...

Ya, all they should do is send these terrorists to the Parliament and to Filmistan, and Ekta Kapur's studios and NOT call the NSG at all.

sthitapragnya said...

Well said. These journos should be to sent in as baits to the terrorists. When will they ever learn?

Anonymous said...

This is to Amit,
Hi, Lemme tell you one thing that so called Sahasis as per you when they entered some of them were co-operating to police and NSG. The purpose was to provide the position of the terrorists to NSG chief who can accordingly instruct his team and not the other way round. I know about the issue raised by politicians but it is not always the same and not all the media person wish to do d same.

Anonymous said...

Hi Amit,

I am Rakesh Trivedi, one who also showd the mumbai police inside the Taj which was aired almost after a week so as u guys come to know abt the amezing efforts taken by mumbai police and nt only NSG. and thats d reason now u proude both of them.

Well I think the police sometimes is simply doing nothing! I mean, I've seen how they behave and they tend to be mean!
