What I dont understand is why us poor engineers are painted as boring nerds while the real nerds that went on to study medicine are shown as uber-cool pimps and dudettes in "Grey's Anatomy," "House," "Nip/Tuck," "ER," even freaking "General Hospital!" Even dorky lawyers have "The Practice" and "Boston Legal," and all we have is the self-deprecating "Dilbert" and "Office Space."
There's only one way to lift our profile - we too need to be glorified on TV. It's about time TV channels started making serials set in engineering firms. People will cheer a hero who uses the DMAIC methodology and Six Sigma skills to save society from countless harms via data-based problem solving and a keen grasp of numbers.
just what i was upto as a kid - and well, i ended up as an engr..the first repairs ended up as bags of components that were to be thrown away (as i could not put them back together)then it was a few screws to spare,,,till i found the 'knack'
know what - try using the word knack outside of India & UK - very few people know what it means!

I'm sure I will be that mother someday!
I share Dilbert's social ineptitude but I have absolutely no intuition on ANYthing electrical or mechanical.
I do have a lot of intuition in math.
Good one!

Hilarious! ROFL at the end-melodramatic bit...
But yes, I ALSO strongly agree with Idling...why is it that we engineers r the boring ones..?!
I didn't even watch the video. Thanks for pimping that unreasonably stereotypical vid and beating the pulp out of our already so-so-social lives.
*Walks away to read a paper on infrared sensors in automatic handheld nose-picking device*
